According to the French media, La Tribune, Morocco signed an agreement with an Israeli company to build the country’s new surveillance satellite in December 2023.
Although the news has not been officially confirmed or denied, neither has the signing of the contract been ratified or refuted by the Moroccan government; it is speculated that the new satellite, which is intended to replace the Mohammed VI-A satellite, will be manufactured by Israel Aerospace Industries.
The Moroccan government has previously shared its intention to replace the Mohammed VI-A and Mohammed VI-B, manufactured by the Airbus Defence and Space France and Thales Alenia Space France consortium, with new observation and reconnaissance satellites. A strategic step to reinforce, improve and diversify the Royal Armed Forces’ air-ground, naval and space defence capabilities.
At this time, the timeline for the project or cost of the satellites are still unknown.
