According to the news release by Kenya’s Ministry of Defense, the Defence Cabinet Secretary, Honourable Aden Duale, along with Kenya’s Ambassador to the Republic of Italy, Ambassador Jackline Yonga, Managing Director of Defence National Security Industries (DNSI) Major General Bernard Waliaula, and the Director General of the Kenya Space Agency (KSA) Brigadier Hillary Kipkosgey, held discussions with Mr Massimo Claudio Comparini, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Thales Alenia Space Italia, during an official visit to Rome, Italy.
During the strategic meeting, Honourable Aden highlighted Kenya’s confrontations with various challenges in agriculture, food security, environmental monitoring, natural resources management, land and physical planning, disaster management, national security, and climate change. In addition, the Honourable emphasised Kenya’s determination to harness space technologies and applications to effectively and efficiently tackle these challenges.
To this end, both parties discussed potential collaboration efforts in providing EO solutions for defence and security applications, broadband communication, and advancing Kenya’s space systems engineering and data analytics capabilities. Kenya’s resolve to address the country’s challenges through space-based technologies reflects a strategic commitment toward leveraging advanced solutions for the country’s diverse concerns. The emphasis on utilising space technologies underscores the nation’s recognition of these technologies in dealing with critical issues across various sectors.
