During the high-level opening ceremony of the ongoing AU-EU Dialogue taking place in Dakar, Senegal, from October 24 to 26, 2023, the Senegalese Space Study Agency/Agence Sénégalaise d’Etudes Spatiale (ASES) inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Regional Association Satellite Communication Organisation (RASCOM). This strategic partnership aims to enhance and expedite Senegal’s digitisation initiatives by harnessing the capabilities of satellite communication solutions.
The MoU was signed by Mr Timothy Adi Ashong, Acting Director General of RASCOM and Dr Maram Kaire, the Director General of the ASES, in the presence of H.E. Amadou Ba, the Prime Minister of Senegal.
This collaborative effort is expected to revolutionise various sectors in Senegal, including but not limited to telecommunications, agriculture, education, and healthcare. The country can bridge the digital divide by leveraging advanced satellite communication technologies and bringing essential services to even the most remote and underserved areas.
Furthermore, this MoU signifies Senegal’s commitment to staying at the forefront of space technology and innovation in Africa, aligning with the broader vision of the African Union-European Union Dialogue to foster cooperation and growth. This cooperation will pave the way for improved connectivity, data access, and information dissemination, ultimately driving economic development and societal progress in Senegal.
