Egypt’s Prime Minister, Dr Mustafa Madbouli, chaired the Egyptian Space Board of Directors meeting, which had in attendance the Egyptian Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Dr Amr Talaat, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr Sharif Sedqi, the Executive Chairman of the Egyptian Space Agency (EgSA), and members of the Agency’s Board of Directors.
To commence the meeting, the Prime Minister acknowledged the crucial role of the agency’s scientific landmarks and efforts geared towards executing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In addition, Dr Mustafa expressed his eagerness to attend the board meeting, visit EgSA’s headquarters, and follow up on its projects.
Furthermore, the CEO of EgSA, Dr Sharif Sedki, reviewed EgSA’s projects and the details necessary for implementing the National Space Programme, which entails the preparation of infrastructures, capacity building, the localisation of the satellite industry, and the progress of agreements made in collaboration with partners globally to enhance cooperative relationships, exchange knowledge, and be up-to-date with the latest developments in space science.
In addition, Dr Sharif discussed the progress of its project, Space City, which will support space activities, including a space academy, a research centre, a satellite assembly centre, and a tourist museum, the African Space Agency, as well as the construction of the City, is expected to assist the country in establishing an integrated scientific entity. Furthermore, on implementing the African Space Agency within the Space City, Dr Sharif highlighted the role of Egypt in supporting the development of Space and technology on the continent while clarifying the city will be constructed close to the agency’s buildings.
