Starlink Now Operational in Ghana, Expanding High-Speed Internet Across Africa.

Starlink, SpaceX’s satellite internet service, is now operational in Ghana, furthering the country’s ambitions for digital connectivity. Rebecca Slick Hunter, Director of Starlink Global Licensing and Market Activation, announced Ghana’s entry into the growing list of African nations benefiting from Starlink’s advanced satellite broadband services.

Licensing and Regulatory Framework

Ghana’s National Communications Authority (NCA) approved SpaceX’s Starlink GH LTD license four months ago, authorising Starlink Satellite Broadband to operate in the country. Additionally, this approval followed the endorsement of the Satellite Licensing Framework by Ghana’s Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation.

Expanding Digital Connectivity in Ghana

With Starlink now operational, Ghana joins Botswana and several other African countries in leveraging the benefits of high-speed, reliable internet provided by Starlink’s LEO satellites. Furthermore, this growing list includes Benin, Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, Madagascar, Eswatini, Malawi, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and Zambia.

The introduction of Starlink in Ghana is a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to strengthen its digital economy. Starlink is expected to bridge the digital divide and enhance digital inclusion. Similarly, it will connect more Ghanaians to the global digital landscape by providing advanced internet solutions. In addition, this development underscores Ghana’s commitment to fostering a robust digital infrastructure that supports socio-economic growth and innovation.
