Starlink, SpaceX’s satellite internet service, has officially launched in Niger, making it the 18th African country where the service is available.
This also marks Starlink’s second market entry in Africa in 2025, following its launch in Liberia in January.
The expansion aligns with the company’s roadmap to secure regulatory approvals and commence operations in 18 new African markets by the end of the year, as indicated on its availability map.
Starlink’s five-year operational license in Niger follows extensive regulatory negotiations that began in Q4 2024.
The agreement, signed between Niger’s ruling military junta and Starlink, aims to improve connectivity in a country where internet penetration remains at 32%, according to the Nigerien Electronic Communications Regulation and Mail Authority (ARCEP).
The launch of Starlink in Niger is expected to enhance broadband accessibility, supporting the country’s digital transformation efforts.
