Starlink Expands its Satellite Internet Operations to Burundi.

Starlink has announced that its high-speed internet is now operational in Burundi. This announcement comes after a presidential decree granted the satellite-based internet provider an operating license in May 2024. The permit was granted under the Telecommunications Regulation and Control Agency (ARCT) of Burundi, which will be responsible for executing the decree under the office of its Director General.

This development is set to significantly enhance internet access for Burundi’s residents. Burundi has one of the world’s lowest percentages of internet users, which has been attributed to the high cost of internet and limited infrastructure.Burundi joins fourteen other African countries in utilising Starlink’s Low Earth Orbit (LEO) constellation to boost satellite internet services nationwide. The company will be operational in several other countries before the end of 2024.
