SatNav Africa JPO Signs MoU With AGEOS Tunisia To Promote GNSS And SBAS Applications In Africa

On the sidelines of the 2025 NewSpace Africa Conference in Cairo, Egypt, the SatNav Africa Joint Programme Office JPO signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tunisian-based African Association for Geospatial Development AGEOS.
The agreement establishes a cooperative framework to promote innovation and support the development of business clusters in the fields of Global Navigation Satellite System GNSS, Satellite-Based Augmentation System SBAS, and space applications across Africa.
Through the established cooperation framework, both parties have committed to jointly promoting GNSS research and innovation uptake and adoption.
Local capacity building in GNSS also remains a central priority within this framework. Moreover, the collaboration is aligned with the African Space Policy and Strategy and broader continental priorities, such as the recently launched Africa-EU Space Partnership Programme, which was unveiled during the conference.
The partnership further aims to promote entrepreneurship and raise technological awareness, focusing on empowering youth and women across Africa.
The Satellite Navigation in Africa Support Programme III Joint Programme Office JPO champions the development of Satellite Navigation in Africa.
It is a component of the Joint Africa-EU Strategy JAES on regional integration and trade, aiming primarily at enhancing safety in civil aviation by introducing satellite navigation in Africa.
Its role is to ensure the development of the Global Navigation Satellite System GNSS and the implementation and adoption of Satellite Based Augmentation Systems SBAS services across the African continent.
