Rwandan President Paul Kagame visited Kazakhstan’s National Space Centre in Astana to participate in the Astana International Forum, signalling Rwanda’s intent to deepen its international collaboration in space technology.
Welcomed by Minister Zhaslan Madiyev, Rwanda’s delegation was briefed on Kazakhstan’s key space projects, including Earth observation, satellite communications, and geospatial services.
A live demonstration in the satellite control room showcased the country’s real time satellite management capabilities.
Discussions centred on potential collaboration in geoinformation technologies, particularly for environmental monitoring, agricultural mapping, and urban planning, which are key focus areas in Rwanda’s development agenda.
Additionally, the two sides also explored academic exchange opportunities for Rwandan students and professionals in Kazakhstan’s space programmes.
President Kagame affirmed Rwanda’s interest in space as a strategic tool for sustainable growth, citing the vital role of satellite data in addressing national priorities.
The visit marks a step forward in Rwanda’s pursuit of international partnerships to support its expanding space ambitions.
