Q-KON has released new OneWeb Twoobii-LEO user terminals. The launch was marked by a successful demonstration at an exclusive customer event in Midrand, South Africa.
These advanced flat-panel terminals highlight the performance advantages of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) connectivity, especially tailored for South African and broader African contexts. The new technology promises enhanced satellite connectivity solutions, addressing the growing demand for reliable and high-speed internet services across the continent.
Q-KON Enhances Connectivity in Africa with Twoobii-LEO Integration
Q-KON’s focus on delivering tailored solutions for local enterprises highlights its commitment to supporting business operations in environments where uninterrupted connectivity is crucial. By leveraging Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite technology, these advanced user terminals offer a vital backup to traditional fibre networks, ensuring seamless operations even during fibre outages.
Furthermore, the solution provider has significantly enhanced the applicability and utility of Smart Satellite Services across Africa by combining class-leading data download and upload speeds with the flexibility and affordability of pay-per-use (PPU) billing models. This innovative approach ensures that more users can access high-speed internet services without the constraints of traditional billing systems. By integrating PPU models, Q-KON offers a cost-effective solution tailored to the varied needs of users across the continent, making advanced satellite connectivity more accessible and practical.
The high data transfer rates and value of the flagship flat-panel terminal set it apart. We will offer the smaller, mid-range, easy-to-install flat-panel terminal to end users as part of combined equipment and service bundles. Operating on the global Eutelsat OneWeb network cements these innovative solutions as ideal backup options for enterprises that require rapid, always-on connectivity and immunity from terrestrial infrastructure challenges and outages.
While the demonstrated speeds of the larger flat-panel antenna are impressive (100Mbps receive data rate and 20 Mbps transmit data rate), raw performance has intentionally taken a backseat to reliability and the provision of best-effort service quality.
Dr. Dawie de Wet, Group CEO of Q-KON, said, “We are delighted to bring these new Twoobii-LEO flat-panel user terminal options to market. South African and African enterprises deserve definitive, carrier-grade services supported by defined service profiles and committed SLAs.”
Q-KON Enhances Satellite Connectivity with Seamless Integration of Twoobii-LEO Services and Fibre Networks
Q-KON aims to boost the reliability and dependability of satellite connectivity by seamlessly integrating Twoobii-LEO Smart Satellite Services with fibre networks via direct links to end-user core networks. The Eutelsat OneWeb gateway infrastructure in South Africa, linked to Teraco through a dark fibre connection, enables this innovation.
“We envision the Twoobii-LEO service primarily used as a backup system, we also see it as a key part of our customers’ connectivity ecosystems,” explains Dr Dawie de Wet, Group CEO of Q-KON. “Rather than creating a parallel system and duplicating functionality, we are driving the move towards complete integration to avoid disruptions during service switches,” he added.
Q-KON will promote the smaller and easy-to-install flat-panel antenna to retail, enterprise, government, and financial sector markets where always-on connectivity is crucial for maintaining customer service standards. This competitively priced terminal offers accessible 50Mbps/10Mbps redundancy services through attractive total cost-of-ownership (TCO) models.
