The Nigerian National Space Research and Development Agency has partnered with Proforce Galaxies Limited to unveil a constellation of four satellites, three optical satellites and one SAR satellite, to enhance Nigeria’s capacity in agriculture, defence, and satellite technology.
The satellites will be instrumental in precision agriculture, earth monitoring and data collection, and other sectors, including defence, maritime, oil and gas, and many others.
Dr. Matthew Adepoju, Director General of NASRDA, stated, “The private sector is essential in driving innovation and growth. We are dedicated to providing the necessary technical expertise for this collaboration. This partnership reflects the President’s commitment to harnessing technology for national development.”
According to Punch, the Group Managing Director of Proforce Galaxies Limited, Engr. Ade Ogundeyin emphasised the need for technology transfer for national development and predicted that the partnership would be among the great achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He further said, “NASRDA has the capacity and capability to be at the centre of the global aerospace industry, and the launch of these satellites will ensure this.”
This partnership has been in the works for a while, with meetings, proposals, and a signed agreement to collaborate on mutual interests—the first private sector initiative in the Nigerian space science and technology sector, and plans for Nigeria’s first commercial satellite dating back to 2022.
