On Monday, 19 May 2025, the Kenya Space Agency KSA and the World Food Programme WFP Kenya signed a Letter of Intent at the KSA Headquarters in Nairobi, reaffirming their commitment to advancing food security through innovation.
The document was formally signed by KSA Director General, Brigadier Hillary Kipkosgey, and WFP Kenya Deputy Country Director, Mr Bai Mankay Sankoh.
This agreement signals a deepened collaboration between the two institutions, aimed at integrating WFP’s expertise in humanitarian operations with KSA’s space technology capabilities.
The partnership will focus on applying satellite technology to improve agricultural monitoring, strengthen climate resilience, enhance disaster response, and optimise logistics.
It also underscores the strategic use of space-based data to support emergency preparedness and long term development planning.
Additionally, the Letter of Intent establishes the groundwork for a formal partnership agreement between WFP Kenya and KSA.
It outlines key areas of collaboration, including the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning, capacity building initiatives, and the deployment of real time satellite imagery to inform emergency response efforts.
Both organisations expressed their commitment to applying technological innovation in support of national development objectives, particularly in enhancing food security and emergency response.
The agreement also reflects a broader intent to contribute to long-term socio-economic resilience through informed decision-making and improved access to data-driven insights.
