Jaguar Space, LLC, a U.S.-based space science company, and Space in Africa, the leading source of intelligence and data analytics on the African space industry, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding MoU to collaborate on a pioneering initiative to advance space based agricultural research and enhance the global representation of emerging space nations.
Under this strategic agreement, both organisations will provide mutual support in the development and execution of low Earth orbit LEO experiments using seeds of African origin.
These seeds, chosen for their cultural, economic, and ecological significance, will form the basis of biological payloads intended to study the impact of microgravity on plant resilience, growth dynamics, and seed viability.
The mission’s primary objective is to evaluate the nutritional and functional potential of underrepresented plant species for long-duration spaceflight.
Additionally, findings from the research will support broader Earth-based applications, including improved crop adaptability, sustainable seed storage techniques, and ecological resilience, further linking space science to global food security and climate adaptation efforts.
Furthermore, this MoU represents a major step toward democratising space science and elevating the role of emerging space nations in tackling planetary challenges through cutting-edge orbital research.
Space in Africa is the leading provider of market intelligence, consulting, and media services for the African space and satellite industry.
Based in Lagos, Nigeria, the organisation tracks and analyses the development of space programs, commercial ventures, and policy trends across the continent.
Through its research, reports, and strategic partnerships, Space in Africa supports governments, academic institutions, and private companies in leveraging space technology for sustainable development.
