The Algerian Space Agency (ASAL) and the Slovenian Space Office held a bilateral meeting on Wednesday in Algiers to establish a framework for collaboration in space technologies and applications.
Many dignitaries from both countries attended the meeting, including ASAL Director General Azzedine Oussedik, Slovenian Space Office Director Tanja Permozer, and Slovenia’s Ambassador to Algeria, Urska Kramberger Mendek.
In his opening remarks, Oussedik highlighted that the Slovenian delegation’s visit to Algeria from February 11 to 13 aligns with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s directives following his meeting with Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob in May 2024.
He emphasised that the objective is to create optimal conditions for cooperation in space technologies and applications.
Oussedik noted that these fields, particularly when integrated with artificial intelligence, offer reliable insights into national natural resources, including groundwater potential, strategic agricultural assets, and mining resources.
This aligns with the joint declaration signed between the Republic of Slovenia and the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria in August 2024.
Additionally, space applications play a crucial role in disaster prevention and management.
He described the visit as a significant milestone in fostering collaboration between ASAL and the Slovenian Space Office.
Slovenian Ambassador Urska Kramberger Mendek praised Algeria’s strong bilateral ties and emphasised that Slovenia’s recent full membership in the European Space Agency (ESA) in January 2024 presents new opportunities for cooperation.
She reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to deepening collaboration across various fields, particularly in space.
As part of the visit, the Slovenian delegation will participate in thematic workshops featuring experts and specialists from both nations.
Discussions will focus on space system design and development, emphasising optical payloads and telecommunications technologies.
