Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration Hosts the President of the African Space Council.

Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration, H.E. Dr Badr Abdelatty, welcomed H.E. Dr Tidiane Ouattara, the President of the Council of the African Space Agency and Dr Sherif Sedky, the CEO of the Egyptian Space Agency (EgSA), in a meeting to reinforce Egypt’s leadership in regional space initiatives and promote collaboration across Africa.

Welcoming AfSA’s President to Egypt, Dr Abdelatty congratulated H.E. Dr Tidiane Ouattara on formally assuming leadership of the council of the African Space Agency, headquartered in Egypt. He reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to empowering AfSA to fulfil its mandate, align with the African Union’s Agenda 2063, and advance sustainable development across the continent.

“The African Space Agency plays a pivotal role in promoting innovation and driving development throughout Africa,” Dr Abdelatty remarked. “Egypt remains steadfast in supporting AfSA’s mission and enhancing its impact for the benefit of all African nations.”

Dr Abdelatty praised the Egyptian Space Agency for its accomplishments and growing partnerships with international counterparts. He emphasised the seamless coordination between EgSA and the Foreign Ministry, strengthening Egypt’s contributions to outer space discussions in global forums. Highlighting a recent milestone, he commended Egypt’s successful tenure as Chair of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) from June 2023 to June 2024. Under Egypt’s leadership, COPUOS achieved a consensus report, later endorsed by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) during its 2024 sessions.
