Senegal’s space programme achieved a significant milestone on June 13 2025, as a high-level delegation from the Ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur, de la Recherche et de l’Innovation (Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation visited the University of Montpellier to inspect the assembly of GAINDESAT-1B, the nation’s second satellite.
The working visit allowed Senegalese officials to observe substantial progress in the satellite’s assembly and integration phase, conducted by engineers from SENSAT SÉNÉGAL.
This critical development phase is another step toward Senegal’s goal of achieving technological sovereignty in space systems.
In parallel with the new satellite’s development, Senegal is finalising the installation of ground-based data collection sensors across its territory to maximise the operational capabilities of GAINDESAT-1A.
This infrastructure will enable real-time environmental and agricultural data acquisition, improved disaster monitoring and response systems and enhanced research capabilities for academic institutions.
The Senegalese delegation expressed strong satisfaction with the project’s advancement, praising the technical proficiency of SENSAT SÉNÉGAL’s engineering teams.
The progress on GAINDESAT-1B demonstrates Senegal’s growing capacity to develop space solutions that address our national priorities, stated Dr Gayane Faye, Coordinator of the Senegalese Space Project SENSAT.
This achievement reflects our broader strategy to build a knowledge based economy through space technology.
