Ambo University (AU) and the Space Science and Geospatial Institute (SSGI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote collaboration in disaster risk management, space science, and geospatial technology.
The partnership, formalised on May 21, 2025, underscores both institutions’ commitment to leveraging research, innovation, and community engagement to support Ethiopia’s sustainable development goals.
The AU-SSGI partnership is expected to serve as a model for academia-industry collaboration in Ethiopia, enabling an ecosystem where research translates into real-world impact.
By integrating space science and geospatial intelligence into national development strategies, the collaboration could significantly enhance Ethiopia’s ability to respond to environmental, economic, and social challenges.
As both institutions progress with implementation plans, stakeholders anticipate that this alliance will strengthen Ethiopia’s scientific infrastructure and position the country as a regional leader in space and geospatial innovation.
